It has been used for 2000 years for joint pain and fevers, often smoked by natives and used for joy and celebration in Egypt. It is an anodyne, antiseptic, astringent, diaphuretic, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-rhuematic, altrative, anti-spasmodic, bitter and disinfectant. This is used for body pain (rather than headaches), gout, sciatica, rheumatism, back pain, internal bleeding, thins blood in threat of heart attack, prevents stagnation in body, can gargle for gums and tonsils, use a wash for sore, sweaty feet and a hair rinse for dandruff. Contraindicated when using other aspirins and any blood thinner. The whole plant works, and you can make a cold infusion of the bark (steep 2-8 hours).
Witches brooms are said to be made of this, and it believed that if you knock on the tree you can advert evil. It gives us lessons in flexibilty, learning how to bend as the tree does in the wind, and used in love divinations, healing, protection and to increase optimism.
