Plants for the Reproductive System
Reproductive health issues and your relationship to the world go hand in hand. For the reproduction system to be functioning in a well-balanced and integrated way, body and spirit must be thriving as a whole. If your diet is deficient, menstrual problems and vaginal discharge may occur. Diet is essential and foods that are light, moist, sweet, easily digested and enzymatically active are supportive.
Some common herbs that support both the male and female reproductive system are:
anise, ashwaganda, black cohosh, blue cohosh, caraway, crampbark, damiana, dong quai, false unicorn, fennel, ginger, American and Korean ginseng, gokshura, lady’s mantle, and wild yam.
Vitex ~ Angus Cactus
Also called Monk’s Pepper and Chase Tree Berries. This has been used as a reproductive tonic since the Middle Ages and is a symbol of virginity with the Greeks and Romans. It is a female glandular tonic, can be an aphrodisiac or an anti-aphrodisiac, regulates the hormones and can increase fertility. Is used for all PMS syndromes, menopause, to lower too high estrogen, or too frequent periods, fibrocystic breasts, infertility due to low progesterone, fibroids, endometriosis, and to normalize hormones after getting off of birth control. It essentially acts like a hormone. Should not take if you are pregnant, on birth control, HRT, dopamines or steroids.
Red Raspberry ~ Rubus Ideaus
Contains tannins, flavonoids, lots of minerals and vitamins, and vitamin C. It is astringent, anti-spasmodic, cardiac tonic, laxative, helps a woman prepare for birth and more. It is good for excessive menstruation, fibroids, uterine prolapse, menstrual cramps, vomiting, nausea, inflamed mucus membrane, pregnancy, puberty, and excessive vaginal discharge. Should not be used in very early pregnancy. This plant can walk a woman through her entire life.
Saw Palmetto ~ Serenoa Repens
This is great for balancing the reproductive glands, an enlarged prostate that is painful, ovary enlargement with pain and tenderness, weak sexual activity, small mamory glands and testicals, male and female infertility, ovary function and thyroid deficiency. Should not be used with any steriod medication.
Horny Goat Weed (yes!) ~ African Goat Weed
This plant has Vitamin E, maganese, alkaloids and steriles. It is an anti-inflammatory, aphrodisiac, circulatory stimulant, a tonic, hormone regulator, hypotensive, hypothyroid, immune stimulator, and restorative kidney tonic. Should be used to warm kidneys, tonify yang, remove excess moisture, stimulate pituitary glands, increased sperm production, strengthen the blood, erectile dysfunction, metabolism depression, forgetfulness, memory loss, menopause, a low libido, hayfever, herpes and infertility. Do not use if you have an excessive sex drive. The perfect aphrodisiac.
