The Cardiovascular System
The circulatory system is ruled by the Sun and uranus. It reminds us to just be, and be mindful of overreaching and being too busy and stressed. Sun is our core where we hold fire; we need to be happy in our core. Oftentimes heart problems are rooted in inner discontent. The heart cannot process anger, coldness, lack of empathy on a regular basis. We need to tune into our heart and intuition; our logic and rationale wear it down over time. Discover and live out of your own life purpose. High blood pressure indicates to us that we are going against the “flow” and feeling uptight and constricted- need to be able to speak freely about self and spirit.
Common problems and plants that can be supportive to them, which depend on what the cause of the issue is:
Hawthorn Berries ~ Crataegus
Also known as maytree, mayflower, mayblossom and maybush; we use the berries, leaves and flowers of the plant. This plant is used if you have a weak heart, pain in your heart, irregular heartbeat, enlarged heart, murmurs, high or low blood pressure rapid heartbeat, insomnia, water retention, breathlessness and arterial scoliosis. If you are already on heart medication you will want to check the dosage before taking this plant. You can take this by decocting the berries after soaking it overnight, make an infusion of the leaves and flowers, take as a tincture or use berries in a syrup, honey, etc.
Cayenne~ Capsicum Annuum
There are several different kinds of this hot red pepper, also called bird pepper sometimes. This brings heat to the circulatory system, and contains flavonoids, vitamins A, B complex, C, zinc, minerals and sulfur. To use as a first aid for heart attack and shock, poor absorption, fatigue, alzheimers, chills, high and low blood pressure, arthritis, colds, intestinal bacteria, vericose veins, toothaches, gum problems and high cholesterol. You should not take this during an active heart attack, if you have ulcers or inflammation in the digestive tract, or if you have acid reflux and take antacids. You can use it in it’s common form as a dried powder in foods, soups, water- specifically mix with grape juice for a blood tonic. Can make an oil with it for muscle pain and can make an infusion of the peppers themselves.
Garlic ~ Allium Satirum
This wonder food was used historically to increase strength and endurance and protect people against the great plague. Some of it’s actions are that it is an antibiotic, antifungal, antiseptic, blood purifier, expectorant and stimulant. This is great for asthma, blood impurities, infections, heart disease, lung disorders, respiratory properties, colds and cough, flu and strep throat, ear infection, high blood pressure, and it stimulates the lymphatic system. Not to be used if your digestive tract is irritated, have stomach ulcers, and are anemic. The best way to get the benefits of garlic are eating it as a raw food (you can add it into peanut butter or applesauce to make it more palatable). If you have a powder form it only lasds 6 months. And you can add it to oils. And of course cooking with it, though the heat diminishes some of the medicinal qualities.
