Chinese Medicine ~ Ginseng and Foti
Chinese Medicine perccieves disease as a disharmony in our functional entities inside of us that regulate our breathing, digestion, aging, etc. Common concepts are: Yang, which is a heating and firey energy that moves things to the external, up and out of us; Yin, which is cooling, soft, watery, moist and sweet energies that build inside of us and bring things down. These are the elements that must be in balance. Chi is the vital life force inside of us and stored in the kidneys and the meridians are the pathways of the chi tha tmove through the body ~ acupuncture can get stuck chi moving through us. Stuck chi signifies fear and a holding back and is often felt in the stomach. Parental chi is the health and energy of our parents and is stored in our kidneys at brirth. Inherited chi is the health and energy of ancestors that we inherit and acquired chi is the health that we get from our lifestyle. Chinese medicine aims to balance and harmonizes these elements in our bodies through working with our chi.

Ginseng ~ Korean name Panax, Asian name Renshen and the US name is Panax Quinquefolius. Has a Yang quality. This plant has over 5000 years of recorded use and has been historically used in love potions. It is thought to bring love, money, guard health, increase sexual vitality, lust, masculine energy and to ward off bad spirits or a hex. It is used to protect the body against stress, increase low vitality, used during radiation treatment, normalized blood pressure, good for allergies, malnutrition, impotence, frigidity, long term fatigue, chronic and frequent infections, shallow breathing, weakness. It is used for short periods of 3-5 months for complete exhaustion, athletes use it to build up for a big race or event, and is good for the last moment of labor. If used too long it can deplete adrenals. Contraindications are pregnancy, if you are on steriod therapy, hypoglycema, hypothyroid, hypoadrenal, young children, and acute inflammatory conditions.
Foti ~ also know as He Shou Wu and sometimes called Black Haired Dr. Wu, Balck Haired Mr. He, and Fleece Flower. This is a great chi tonic and restorative plant. It has been historically used to promote longevity and keep hair black (prevent grey!). It is used for insomnia, immune enhancer and reproductive restorative, antioxidant, blood deficencies, premature grey hair, dry skin, weak knees and back, depression, exhaustion, memory loss, poor concentration, disinterest in life and sex, skin conditions and autoimmune disorder. It is a bitter, astringent, laxative, muscular cellular skeletal restorative, nervine, sedative, and is anti-bacterial, viral, it builds blood, lowers cholestorol, replenishes the liver and kidneys. Contraindication is severe diarrhea.
